Virginia Beach Non-Emergency Telephone Number Changes

Effective Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at 7:00 a.m., the Virginia Beach Emergency Communications Center (ECC) has a new non-emergency public telephone number, 385-5000.  Citizens with non-emergency public safety requests should now dial 385-5000.  The two previous non-emergency telephone numbers for public safety requests (427-5000 and 427-5616) will no longer connect callers to the ECC.  Instead, callers will hear a recorded message informing them of the telephone number change and direct them to hang up and dial the new non-emergency telephone number, 385-5000. Examples of non-emergency public safety requests include non-emergency assistance from Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS), reporting a crime not in progress, and requests for information about current or previous public safety cases and incidents.
 Thalia's 3rd Precinct - Officer N. J. Witczak W# 219-2703, Cell# 636-0680 - call anytime 24/7

The NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH PROGRAM  is a program involving the joint efforts of the Virginia Beach Crime Prevention Steering Committee, the Police Department, and the Community - designed to enhance neighborhood security, heighten the community's power of observation, and to encourage mutual assistance and concern among neighbors.

The Neighborhood Watch Program that is implemented here in the Thalia Community will prevent crime and protect against burglary, property destruction, and theft. The program is simple, it involves neighborhood concern and awareness, along with police cooperation.

Your community needs your help to keep it safe for its citizens, businesses and guests. In recent years, neighborhoods have experienced rapid change.  The old, well-established neighborhood has been replaced by a high transient, growing community where people seek more and more privacy.  This life style tends to promote unfamiliarity with neighbors and a corresponding lack of concern.  Unfortunately, this enhances the opportunities for the criminal element and increases the community's vulnerability to crime.  These conditions dictate the need for a Crime Prevention Program to intensify neighborhood security.  For the program to be totally effective, each resident must take an active role in both security improvement and observation.

We must work together. Safety is not just the job of government alone. It takes all of us to ensure that the Thalia Community remains a safe place to live, work, learn and play. Get involved.

We "WATCH-OUT" for our NEIGHBORS

Homeland Security - Neighborhood Watch at its Best

As a result of attacks upon the United States, President Bush has urged all Americans to help with the security of our country. In keeping with the mission of the Neighborhood Watch Program, we ask that all citizens of Virginia Beach be on the alert for any suspicious people. Report all suspicious people or occurrences to the local police department by calling 427-5000 (non-emergency), or 911 for emergencies. Report it, if you observe a suspicious person or a vehicle parked on city property such as a public utilities building, recreation center or school in your community. Report it if you see a suspicious package in the neighborhood park or areas where children play. Report it if you see dumping taking place in community lakes, ponds, or water reservoirs. If you see unusual activity in the woods or surrounding area in your neighborhood, REPORT IT!
